Hereford Inlet Lighhouse

Wildwood Historical Society

For 50 years, the Wildwood Historical Society has preserved memories of the Wildwoods. Our museum is an invaluable source of information and enjoyment for anyone who enters its doors. From the region’s simple beginnings in the late 1800s to the rock and rollin’ hey-days of the 1950s and 60’s, the museum’s collection of photographs, artifacts and memorabilia covers it all. Prepare to be truly amazed.

Sunken Ship, Sunset Beach

The S. S. Atlantus is probably the most famous concrete ship. She was built by the Liberty Ship Building Company in Brunswick, Georgia and launched on December 5, 1918 as the second concrete ship constructed in the World War I Emergency Fleet. On June 8th, a storm hit and the ship broke free of her moorings, running aground 150 feet off the coast of Sunset Beach. Several attempts were made to free the ship, but none were successful. Since then, the Atlantus has become a tourist attraction seen by millions.

Cape May Lighthouse

The lighthouse was built in 1859 under the supervision of U.S. Army engineer William F. Raynolds. It was automated in 1946 and continues operations to this day. Also, it’s the third fully documented lighthouse to be built at Cape May Point. The first was built in 1823 and the second in 1847.

Cape May County Zoo

This spectacular zoo in the Cape May Court House features over 550 critters representing more than 250 different species. And best of all, in 2010, the birth of two Snow Leopard cubs put the zoo on the national map. In 2012, the zoo saw its third consecutive year of Snow Leopard births! A well-planned boardwalk system takes you up and over several living areas of the park’s inhabitants, including lions, cheetahs, giraffes, zebras, bison and more. Plus, you’ll find sheltered rest areas with binoculars for viewing. Naval Air Station Wildwood

Naval Air Station (NAS) Wildwood Aviation Museum is a non-profit museum located at the Cape May Airport inside historic Hangar #1. Commissioned in April 1943, NAS Wildwood served as an active dive-bomber squadron training facility during World War II. Today, Hangar #1 has been restored and transformed into an Aviation Museum that houses a number of aircraft, engines, special exhibits and educational interactive displays.

Raging Waters
